Canada beef exports drop 3% in August

2023 exports down 5% in volume, but up 3% in value

Canada beef export volumes declined 3% over last year in August, down 2% from the five-year average for the month, according to Canada Beef.

From January to August, beef exports were down 5% in volume but up 3% in value from last year. 

Year-to-date export volumes increased to the US (+2%), Hong Kong and Macau (+1%), Mexico (+28%) and EU27 (+32%), but declined to Japan (-35%), Southeast Asia excluding Taiwan (-18%), South Korea (-32%), Taiwan (-30%), and MENA (-42%). There were no exports to the UK or China. 

Federally inspected slaughter in August 2023 was down 5.3% from last year at 296,081 head, and up 23.6% from July 2023.
