Fall Cattle Run Begins
SASKATCHEWAN - The number of feeder cattle on offer in Saskatchewan auction markets last week rose to over 12,000 head. The higher volume was met by mixed prices.The Sask Ag and Food Weekly Cattle Market Update says light steers (300-400 pounds) were $2 per hundredweight higher. 400-600 pound steers fell $3 per hundredweight. The remaining weight categories were relatively steady, ranging $1 per hundredweight higher or lower.
Light heifers (300-400 pounds) were up $1 per hundredweight, while the 400-500 range was $1 lower. 500-700 pound heifers were unchanged. Heavier heifers gained ground, with 700-800 pound animals up $3 per hundredweight and 800 pound and over heifers rising $2.
