Best of British Breeding on Show at Livestock Event

UK - The best of British genetics are scheduled to be showcased in front of a line-up of judges and the country’s largest audience of farmers from throughout the UK and beyond at the Livestock Event, staged at The NEC, Birmingham on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 July.

Ashley Fleming will be travelling from Downpatrick, Co. Down to judge the supreme dairy interbreed award after the breed classes.

The National Ayrshire Show will be judged by Blaise Tomlinson, Leicester; the National Brown Swiss Show, Stefan Hodel, Zug, Switzerland; the National British Friesian Show, Edward Griffiths, Sheffield; Guernsey classes, James Warren, Penzance; Holstein classes, Peter Waring, Beverley; and Jersey classes, Richard Saxby, Clitheroe.

Alan Lawson, Newcastle on Tyne will be judging the National Charolais Show, the South Devon Performance Championship, PS Rowe, Liskeard and the National Lleyn Sheep Competition, David Alexander, Galston.

“We are thrilled by cattle breeders’ continuing enthusiasm to exhibit their animals despite the increasing pressure they face caused by tighter movement restrictions,” comments RABDF livestock co-ordinator, Lucy Mellor.

“We are looking forward to welcoming them – both new entrants along with numerous old friends returning to the ring, together with a visitor audience of over 16,000 including international cattle breeders seeking out the best British genetics.”

Love My Livestock: win tickets to the ATP world tennis tour, London

Livestock Event has launched Love My Livestock, a new competition with two tickets at stake for the winner to the ATP world tennis tour at The O2, London in November, courtesy of the event’s principal sponsor, Barclays.

Event director, Matt Knight explains: “Take a picture of your livestock, or yourself with your livestock and tweet it to us @LivestockEvent AND @Barclaysag or facebook at @LivestockEvent. We will try and post all of them on to www.livestockevent.co.uk homepage and select the top six for judging at the event on Wednesday 6 July.”

Barclays national agricultural strategy director, Oliver McEntyre says: “We are thrilled to support this new competition.
