Ukraine Focuses on Export Markets

Minister of Agriculture Mykola Prysiazhniuk said the country will reduce pork imports by 40 per cent and start exporting poultry to the EU countries and to continue grow the cattle herds.
However, priority will improve the quality of animal products and increase the productivity of livestock.
He said Ukraine plans to build and renovate 153 livestock complexes and in 2013 the state will continue to pay subsidies to rear young cattle, as well as supporting individual farmers and owners of family farms to increase pork production.
"This year we will be able to reduce pork imports by 40 per cent. To do this, in 2013 we will transfer some funds so as to motivate farmers to build new farms to increase pork production and increase its marketability," the minister said.
"In addition, this year the state will continue to pay subsidies to rear young cattle, which this year will keep more than 500,000 head in the national herd," Mykola Prysiazhniuk said.
The Minister stressed that the priority will be to improve the quality of livestock products through the implementation of HACCP control in manufacturing.
In addition, the state will pay more attention to increase livestock productivity by maintaining high quality breeding animal breeds.
Through systematic measures to enhance meat production, the state will not only completely satisfy domestic needs, but also may be one of the leading exporters of these products, he said.
