OIE: FMD Reported In Israel

ISRAEL - New cases of Foot and Mouth disease (FMD) have been reported to OIE by Dr Nadav Galon, Director, Veterinary Services and Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, BET DAGAN, Israel.

New outbreaks of FMD have occurred at four sites across Israel. The sites are as follows:

  • Orcha Junction, Golan, HAZAFON- 18/07/2011, Resolved
  • MI'ELYA, Acco, HAZAFON- 26/07/2011, Resolved
  • DEVORA, Yizreel, HAZAFON- 10/07/2011, Resolved
  • DALTON, Tsefat, HAZAFON- 10/07/2011, Resolved

Total number of cattle effected so far has been 167 cases. This has resulted in no deaths so far.

Most of the affected herds were vaccinated within the last year and most of the outbreaks have been typed and found as due to type O.

Control measures applied include:

  • Quarantine
  • Movement control inside the country
  • Screening
  • Zoning
  • Vaccination in response to the outbreak (s)
  • Disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s)

The event pertains to a defined zone within the country. The source of the outbreak is inconclusive.
