New Beef Promotion Project For Brazil

BRAZIL - The Brazilian Beef Export Association (ABIEC) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Agency have joined forces to boost the image of Brazilian beef around the world.

At the 34th Exppointer exhibition at teh weekend, the organisations sigend an agreement to enhance the Sectorial Project for Promotion of Exports of Beef (Brazilian Beef) part of the Livestock Project in Brazil.

The communication and image boosting move will showcase best practices and success stories in the cattle and beef industry in Brazil.

ABIEC and Apex-Brazil are to invest an extra R$ 4.9 million over the next two years to expand the activities of the project.

The Brazilian Beef Project's aim is to strengthen the image of Brazilian beef, improving the perception of quality in importing countries and widening the Brazilian participation in world meat market.

"We want to show the world all the knowledge and technology we have behind our cuts of meat, as well as a number of attributes that add value to the consumer," said the president of Apex-Brazil, Mauricio Borges, during the ceremony, which was also attended by the Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), Fernando Pimentel, the president of ABIEC, Antonio Jorge Camardelli, and the president of the Federation of Industries of Rio Grande do Sul, Hector Jose Muller.

Minister Pimentel stressed the importance of signing the agreement during Expointer: "An event like this shows the strength of Brazilian agribusiness. I can testify to the effort being made by agencies and by government agencies to promote Brazilian products abroad."

Mr Camardelli said the market had grown to include 150 countries since 2001 and at present Brazil exports to 80 different markets.
