US Cattle On Feed Down One Per Cent
US - Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 9.88 million head on 1 September 2009. The inventory was one per cent below 1 September 2008.

Placements in feedlots during August totaled 2.11 million, 2 per cent above 2008. Net placements were 2.06 million head. During August, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 pounds were 425,000, 600-699 pounds were 395,000, 700-799 pounds were 515,000, and 800 pounds and greater were 775,000.
Marketings of fed cattle during August totaled 1.81 million, 4 per cent below 2008. This is the lowest fed cattle marketings for the month of August since the series began in 1996.
Other disappearance totaled 55,000 during August, 12 per cent above 2008.
