BSE controls have to stay in place, say Guernsey
GUERNSEY - Guernsey does not have the facilities necessary to lift the restrictions on the slaughter for human consumption of cattle aged over 30 months. The UK is ending its ban, imposed in the wake of the BSE crisis, from 7 November if cattle test negatively for the disease. But the local slaughterhouse does not have the cold storage needed to hold carcasses while the animals’ brains are tested in the UK to ensure that they do not have the early stages of BSE.Source: ThisIsGuernsey
