ICoMST: Meat – Muscle, Manufacturing and Meals

DENMARK - The 55th International Congress of Meat Science and Technology (ICoMST 2009) will take place at the Bella Centre near Copenhagen, Denmark, from 16 to 21 August 2009.

The programme of events will be aimed at professionals within the Meat Science and Technology sectors, with internationally renowned experts on hand to give attendees insight into this year’s major themes of ‘Meat – Muscle, Manufacturing and Meals’.

The programme will include plenary sessions on the ‘Value Chain in Meat Production’ and ‘Manufacturing Technology’. Technical tours will include Danish Meat Research Institute (DMRI) at Roskilde, the Danish Crown slaughterhouse at Horsens and the University of Copenhagen/Technical University of Denmark. EU Seminars will focus on ‘Quality of Pig and Pork Products Matching Consumer Demands’, ‘Advancing Beef Safety and Quality Through Research and Innovation’, ‘New Trends and Tools in Food Safety’ and ‘Diogens - Diet, Obesity and Genes’.

Visitors to the congress will also be encouraged to make their own presentations and posters, with a prize of $5,000 on offer for the best presentation, lecture or poster concerned with red meat, by any contributor not older than 40 years of age at the end of the year.

Lars Hinrichsen, Director of the Danish Meat research Institute (DMRI,) said, “ICoMST 2009 will be a fantastic opportunity for all those with an interest in Meat Science and Technology to get together in an exciting environment and discuss best practice in the industry. We hope that visitors find it will extend their knowledge, improve their practice and widen their networks, as this will be the main meat science event in 2009.”

ICoMST 2009 is being organised by The Danish Meat Research Institute (DMRI) and The Centre for Advanced Food Studies (LMC).
