The event is devoted to providing researchers, practitioners and clinicians, involved in Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) research, the opportunity to meet, share ideas and learn more about BVDV and control of the disease.

"BVDV is estimated to cost the cattle industry $10 to $40 per calf born. Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health’s decision to become a co-sponsor of the 2009 BVDV Symposium underscores our commitment to finding solutions to help control this costly disease," says Scott Nordstrom, Manager of Veterinary Technical Services for Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health. "Intervet/Schering-Plough continues to invest significantly in research and development efforts aimed at providing innovative products to help control BVDV from conception to birth and beyond."

The 4th annual BVDV Symposium will be held Jan. 26-27, 2009 in Phoenix, Ariz. prior to the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association winter conference. The Symposium, entitled, "BVDV Variability: Impact on Virulence, Host Range and Control," will include two days of informative presentations delivered by field experts on topics ranging from basic virology to control of BVDV. "Since 2002, the BVDV Symposiums have attracted research scientists, veterinarians, laboratory diagnosticians and others with an interest in gaining the most up-to-date information on the control and eradication of BVDV," says Chris Chase, DVM, Chair of the BVDV Symposium Organizing Committee. "It is because of our sponsors like Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health that we are able to make this annual meeting happen."

Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health is dedicated to the research, development and marketing of high-quality animal health products such as Vista® SQ vaccines, the only products that aid in the prevention of fetal infection, including persistently infected calves, caused by BVDV Type 1 and Type 2 for the entire pregnancy.
