Delay to End of 48-month Limit Could Cost Millions
WALES, UK - The Farmers Union of Wales has reacted angrily to the decision by the Food Standards Agency to await a further report before raising the cattle BSE testing limit to 48 months.“Despite admitting that there is an overwhelming scientific case supporting the move, the FSA board and the Spongiform Encephalopathies Advisory Committee have created hurdles that could delay the lifting of the limit and cost the beef industry millions,” said Aeron Prysor Jones, the FUW’s livestock committee chairman.
“They have accepted the scientific arguments, so deferring a decision pending the production of a report is completely disproportionate.
