Colombia Declares Limited Foot and Mouth Emergency

COLOMBIA - The Colombian Agricultural Institute was cited as saying Colombia had declared a health emergency in the province of North Santander near the Venezuelan border on Thursday after 29 cows were found with foot and mouth disease.

The disease was detected in the area at the start of the month, the institute said in a statement.

Authorities have increased controls on cattle being exported from North Santander to Venezuela and ranchers are being asked to report health problems suffered by their livestock.
