Strong Desire for Canadian Beef in Asian Countries

CANADA - The first market intelligence missions undertaken by the Canadian Cattlemen Development Council recently made stops in Japan, Taiwan, Korea and Hong Kong.

There appears to be no concern about the safety of Canadian beef, in fact there seems to be a strong desire for Canadian beef in Asian countries.

What can Canada do to increase beef sales to Japan? Hugh Lynch-Staunton is the President of the Canadian Cattlemen's Association and he says it's up to producers.

"We've been trying to get more of our producers to age-verify their cattle and for various reasons we haven't had enough age-verification cattle to fill the demand there and that's a very simple thing that we can do to increase the value out of our cattle".
