The considerably larger volumes were met with slightly stronger prices.

Light steers (300-400 lb.) gained $1 per hundredweight, while 400-500 lb. steers traded $3 per hundredweight higher and 500-600 lb. steers were up $2. The other weight classes were steady.

Light and mid-weight heifers were $2 to $3 per hundredweight higher. Heavy heifers saw a $1 increase.

Sask Ag and Food Beef Economist Sandy Russell says signficant volumes should make their way to town again this week with warmer weather and stronger prices enticing producers to market calves.

Slaughter cows traded higher again last week, with D1,2 cows averaging $2 per hundredweight higher.
