Record beef exports to Japan in 2006

AUSTRALIA - Australian beef exports to Japan reached record levels in 2006, with shipments increasing 0.2% on the previous record set in 2005, to 405,796 tonnes swt.

According to figures released by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), Australia exported 35,040 tonnes swt of beef to Japan in December 2006, 10% above on the same period last year. Although exports of chilled beef during December dropped 8%, to 15,896 tonnes swt, frozen beef exports increased 30% on the same period last year, to 19,144 tonnes swt.
