Another lift in prime cattle prices

Another week of better news for the cattle trade has emerged, in that the trade has demonstrated a more positive environment. In week ended 14 May, the GB overall prime cattle average moved up just over 2p on the week earlier to reach 313.0p/kg. This increase capitalised on the previous week's uplift and gives a clearer indication that the balance in the trade has swung in producers' favour after an extended period otherwise. Steers meeting R4L classification moved up 3p to 325.9p/kg, while heifers were up almost 2p to 324.6p/kg. Young bulls classifying at R3 strengthened 4p on the week to 311.1p/kg.
