Cattle trade continues to look down

Prime cattle prices in the week ended April 23 continued their descent downwards, with the overall prime cattle average price down almost 3p/kg on the previous week to 310.6p/kg. R4L graded steers and heifers both averaged 322.4p/kg, both losing about 2p/kg on the week earlier. Overall young bull prices fell by a more notable 4p/kg to average 293p/kg, but those meeting R3 specification held up better, easing 2p on the week to 308.3p/kg. It seems that processors are able to continue to source more than sufficient supplies of prime cattle to prevent any change in the direction of the trade.
