A series of training days are scheduled dealing with embryo transfer to assist technicians with selecting and breeding cattle.

Running from October into the middle of November, the Colombian Corporation of Agricultural Research (CORPOICA) is hoping to improve productivity through breeding.

Main topics covered go from selecting females, design and planning of embryo transfer, heat detection mechanisms, bovine reproductive anatomy, thawing protocols and embryo preservation.

In vitro fertilisation will reduce the cost of embryos, enabling more producers to access the technology, said Dr Diego Ortiz, CORPOICA.

He added that this will have a bigger impact on higher yields.

“The idea is that each person working in the livestock field understand the process that starts from superovulation, through insemination, embryo extraction, recipient cows and finally, a baby who will become a pure animal under conventional method in vivo,” said Dr Ortiz.
