Russia Suspends Import Embargo on Brazilian Meat
BRAZIL - An import ban on beef, pork and poultry meat from Mato Grosso, Parana and Rio Grande do Sul has been lifted after a decision was made by a meeting of the Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of the Russian Federation last Friday.

After analysing documents produced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) on the Brazilian health service the team concluded in Moscow that resumption of exports from Mato Grosso, Parana and Rio Grande do Sul can go ahead subject to the issuance of an official statement.
The Brazilian secretary for agriculture defence, Ernie Marques explains that the two countries also agreed that every batch of meat to be sent to the Russia must be accompanied by additional declaration confirming the absence of growth hormones.
"Although more Brazilian meat exports go elsewhere, the importance of the Russian market is undeniable. The outlook for next year is that our meat sector will hit record highs, "he said.
Chief executive of the Brazilian Poultry Union (UBABEF), Francisco Turra, celebrated the resumption of trade with Russia.
"There was extensive involvement of The Ministry of Agriculture Livestock and Supply in maintaining sufficient standards to satisfy Russian importers that also included the Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Pork Meat and the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporters in decisions.
"With all meat safety requirements met the embargo is rightly lifted but the Brazilian president continues to visit Russia to prevent new embargoes occur in the future, "said Francisco Turra.
