OIE: FMD Outbreak Reported

NAMIBIA - An outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) has been reported to the OIE by Dr Albertina Shilongo, Chief Veterinarian Epidemiology, Namibia.

The outbreak occurred on the 26/11/11, at a farm in Masikili Village, Caprivi.

The outbreak effected 37 of the 1510 susceptible. The outbreak has led to know deaths.

The source of the outbreak is due to contact with wild species. The outbreak is only effecting a defined zone within the country.

Control measures being applied include; quarantine, movement control within the country and zoning.
