UK Slaughter Statistics
UK - Statistics released by DEFRA suggest that the number of cattle slaughtered in the UK has increased compared to figures this time last year.

UK monthly slaughter statistics show that the number of animals slaughtered in January was significantly higher compared to previous months. However it should be noted that January is a five week month.
In general carcase weights increased, particularly for cows and young bulls. Pig weights remained fairly static.
Home-killed production of meat increased for both beef and pork.
The number of steers (18,000) and young bulls (5,000) slaughtered in January 2010 increased compared to January 2009, whilst the number of heifers (15,000) and young bulls (9,000) slaughtered fell slightly.
The slaughter of cows and adult bulls tends to peak between October - November as does the slaughter of steers.
The number of clean pigs slaughtered increased significantly from 163,000 in January 2009 to 181,000 in January 2010, peaking around November. Sows and boars remained stagnant.
