McDonald’s Beef Shortage Takes Burgers Off Menu

SOUTH KOREA - McDonald’s Korea recently halted sales of some beef hamburgers due to a shortage of patties from Australia.

Several branches posted announcements saying that some of their beef burgers were not available for sale.

The company confirmed Friday that the 1955 burgers and quarter pound cheese hamburgers are temporarily unavailable at several local branches.

Other products were also halted earlier in the week. The shortage does not account for every branch in Korea, as the supply situation differs per store.

"We had a supply issue regarding Australian beef patties due to a demand hike there," said the company in a statement. "Supply for the remaining two items will be stabilized in mid-January."

McDonald’s Korea only imports beef from Australia and New Zealand. The spokesman explained that every beef patty for each burger is slightly different and may come from different farms, which explains why some beef burgers were affected and some were not.
