The Five Nations Beef Alliance (FNBA) has said a comprehensive, trade liberalising deal is “vital” and pledged to help the beef industry to “reap the maximum benefits” of future tariff cuts.

Following a meeting in Hawaii this month, the Cattle Council of Australia (CCA), has insisted five years of negotiations cannot be allowed to lose momentum.

The CCA makes up the FNBA along with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association in the US, the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association, Beef and Lamb New Zealand and the Mexican National Confederation of Livestock Organisations.

A CCA spokesperson said: “The Alliance has been buoyed by positive signals from various TPP governments in recent weeks.

“Now is the time to convert this into action - and deliver on the vision of “a comprehensive, next generation regional agreement that liberalizes trade and investment and addresses new and traditional trade issues and 21st century challenges”.
