UK Leads Cattle Prices in Europe

EU - Deadweight cattle prices in the UK were nearly €1 per kilo ahead of the average price in the EU last month.

The prices in the UK rose by nearly six Euro cents to 497.4 in March from 491.6. The average R3 deadweight heifer price across Europe at the end of March was 401.2 per kilo while at the same time the Euro fell against the pound to hit just 72p.

The UK topped the table for price in Europe with prices in Ireland some way behind and dropping by more than 5 Euro cents to 414.1.

While the UK and Ireland were some way ahead of the rest of Europe in price, significant rises were seen in Scandinavian countries with Sweden showing a 15.3 cent rise to 411.5 and Denmark reporting a rise of 18.7 cents to 357.

However, France, Span and Germany all showed a drop in price of around one cent, while Italy slumped by more than 12 cents to 405.5 per kilo.

The largest fall came in Lithuania, where prices dropped by more than 34 Euro cents to 248.7.
