Another BSE Ban Lifted on Brazilian Beef
BRAZIL – Egypt joined Iran last week by lifting restrictions imposed on Brazilian beef as part of precautionary actions to an ‘atypical’ case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).

The embargoes, in place from May this year, applied to beef reared in Mato Grosso, where the case was identified in a mature animal.
Reflecting on a Brazilian diplomatic mission to Egypt, agriculture minister Neri Geller said: "This was a successful mission. We managed to fulfill our objective - to suspend the beef embargo on both countries."
Mr Geller also discussed future trade opportunities with Egyptian businesses, underlining their keenness for more Brazilian agri-foods.
"There is great interest in the Egyptian business sector to expand imports from Brazil," he said.
"This visit has been very important to eliminate some barriers to trade and enhance cooperation between the two countries.”
