A serological test by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) can be marketed and developed better by US specialists, according to an EMBRAPA press release.

The test, which detects for presence of antibodies against the Tb bacillus, could be rolled out across the US, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Uganda.

Already working alongside skin tests in Brazil, the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test has attracted Brazilian company Divita Diagnostics.

The company aims to market the product across Brazil.

EMBRAPA researcher Flabio Araujo, who led the study, said: “Company cooperation is a means of spreading technologies across other nations.”

He revealed the test’s ability to correctly detect 94.6 per cent of healthy animals.

He said this level of accuracy could reduce the problems from inconclusive results and, “address the number of advanced infection stages going undetected.”
