OIE: Tibetan Outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease Confirmed

TIBET – Over 150 animals have been destroyed following a foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak in the Rikaze region of Tibet.

A total of 32 cases on one holding in Kare Village left 156 cattle, sheep and goats susceptible all of which have been destroyed.

Notification was received by the World Organisation for Animal Health yesterday from Dr Zhang Zhongqui at the China Animal Disease Control Centre.

Tests were carried out at the National Laboratory in Lanzhou which confirmed disease presence.

A range of control measures have been applied to limit the spread of the FMD including; quarantining, movement controls and disinfection.
