Brazil has said that whilst it would continue to import beef from Paraguary, all imports of beef from the FMD zone have been suspended.

Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture has announced steps to increase biosecurity on its border.

Military patrols have been placed on the border at five high risk points and are working in conjunction with inspectors from the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health to prevent the disease spreading.

All vehicles entering Brazil from Paraguay are being disinfected, and all agricultural events on the border (in Mato Grosso du Sul) have been postponed.

Extra veterinarians have been hired to help out in the Mato Grosso region.

The second FMD outbreak was located 35 kilometres from the first one, both in San Pedro county to the north of Paraguay.
