More of Miyazaki Cattle Infected

MIYAZAKI, JAPAN - Two further outbreaks of foot and mouth disease (FMD) have been detected in Miyazaki.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 10 dated 23 June 2010. According to the report, the latest outbreaks have affected the region's cattle population.

The first outbreak took place on 16 June at a farm wherein three cases were identified, and 243 found susceptible. The second outbreak also took place at a farm in Miyazaki City on 18 June, where one animal was found infected and 38 showed signs of susceptibility to the disease. A total of 281 cattle were destroyed.

The source of the outbreak has still not yet been identified.
